The Foreign Offices total 319, of which 7 are currently inoperative (chart 1.1).

Of the 126 Embassies (chart 1.2), the largest number (26) are located in the European Union, followed by Asia and Oceania (23), the Americas and Sub-Saharan Africa (21), and non-EU Europe, the Mediterranean and Middle East (18).

Of the consular offices (chart. 1.3), 38 are located in Europe, followed by the Americas with 31, Asia and Oceania with 12, the Mediterranean/Middle East with 8 and Sub-Saharan Africa with 3.

The distribution of Italian Cultural Institutes (chart 1.4) is similar: 36 in the European Union (40% of the total), followed by 10 in non-EU Europe, 19 in the Americas, 12 in Asia and Oceania, 8 in the Mediterranean/Middle East and 3 in Sub-Saharan Africa.
