Lending assistance to Italian nationals abroad is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ primary commitment. New forms of risk associated with political instability as well as with the spread of terrorism and organised criminal activity, natural disasters and epidemics has led to a substantial and entirely new demand for assistance by Italians in emergency situations abroad.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has therefore equipped itself with highly advanced means for rapidly responding to these types of risks.
The Crisis Unit was created in the mid-1980s with the institutional task of assisting Italian nationals and protecting Italian interests in emergency situations abroad
