Office III – Protection of intellectual property, patents and copyright; anti-counterfeiting

• Innovation and protection of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, design, geographical indication, copyright);
• initiatives to combat piracy and counterfeiting at the international and Community levels, including with respect to the information society, Internet and other means of communication (World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (WTO-TRIPS), Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), European Patent Office), Office of Harmonisation for the Internal Market (OHIM)).

Office IV – Energy policy, environmental protection and sustainable development of the planet

• Sustainable development policies;
• international regimens, negotiations and cooperation in matters of energy, climate change (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – UNFCCC) and environmental protection;
• international organisations for cooperation in the sectors of energy and the environment (IEA, Energy Charter, International Energy Foundation (IEF), OPEC, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), UN Environment Programme (UNEP));

Office V – G8 / G20 Processes.

• Preparations for the G8/G20 Summits and support for the G8/G20 Sherpa and the G/8 Foreign Affairs Sous-Sherpa, in liaison with the other Directorates General with regard to topics within their remit. Analysis of global and cross-cutting economic issues on the G8/G20 agenda.
