Office I – Promotion of sector policies, economic and financial integration, internal market and competitiveness of the European Union

• Economic, monetary and fiscal policy, Stability and Growth Pact, EMU;
• EU financial and budgetary prospects;
• territorial cooperation and cohesion policies, agriculture and fisheries, transport, infrastructure and communications, maritime policy;
• Europe 2020 Strategy and competitiveness policies, internal market and free movement, industry and consumer protection, competition and state aid;

Office II – European Union External Relations and Relations with the European External Action Service, Enlargement Process.

• The European Union’s relations with third countries and regional organisations;
• EU enlargement process and accession negotiations, pre-accession policies with potential candidate countries;
• transatlantic relations;
• European Neighbourhood Policy and associated regional activities, regulatory framework for third country assistance programmes;
• EU trade policy and preparation of common positions in international trade negotiations and in Community trade disputes;
• twinning programmes and Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX);
• preparation of the General Affairs Council;
• financial cooperation and development cooperation (in association with the DGCS-DGDC) between the European Union and third countries;
• implementation of internationalisation policies in Italy (1): Community economic, financial, technical and Development Cooperation programmes and related management committees (especially Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI)), in association with the DGCS-DGDC; 
• implementation of internationalisation policies in Italy (2): administration of structural funds (including European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF);
• activities of the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Office III – European Space of Freedom, Security and Justice, free movement of people and migratory flows towards the European Union

• EU Cooperation in justice and internal affairs: European space of freedom, justice and security, 
• free movement of people, including development of the Schengen acquis;
• visa, asylum and immigration policies and border management;
• civil and criminal judicial cooperation, police cooperation;
• fight against organised crime and drug trafficking.

Office IV – Institutional architecture of the European Union, European Parliament and citizens bureau, Italian candidatures

• Institutional questions;
• relations with the European Parliament, relations with the Union’s judicial bodies and the Mediator;
• questions submitted to the Council and Commission’s judicial services, analysis of EU laws and domestic implementing legislation;
• pre-dispute and preliminary investigations concerning EU disputes, in liaison with the Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Disputes and International Agreements Service;
• collaboration with the Diplomatic Institute and the ministries involved in training public officials in Community matters, support for Italian candidates for EU posts, Italian personnel in the EU, including the management of National Seconded Experts (Italian initials END) and their contact network;
• EU personnel statute;
• institutional aspects of Italy’s participation in the European External Action Service (EEAS);
• institutional developments in Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in concert with the Directorate general for Political Affairs and Security.
