From the Unit for the Regions to the Unit for the Country System

The Unit for the Country System and Autonomous Administrations, in direct collaboration with the Secretary General, represents the evolution of a previous division focused solely on the international relations of autonomous administrations.
Its establishment and activities falls within the Minister and Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ most recent efforts to boost support for the internationalisation of the “Country System” and, in particular, its economic interests.
The main functions of the Unit, therefore, include support for the integrated and system-related initiatives of the foreign ministry and its secretary general with the aim of making collaboration with the other institutions concerned with Italy’s foreign relations, especially on an economic level, consistent and organic; as well as implementation of laws and procedures associated with the foreign power of autonomous administrations, collaboration with them and linkage with the central government, institutions for government/autonomous dialogue, the diplomatic/consular network and other Italian institutions operating abroad.
