Culture and Science

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs carries out a broad-based and intensive activity aimed at the dissemination of Italian culture abroad through the network of Italian Cultural Institutes.
Theatre, exhibitions and concerts as well as language courses, incentives for the translation of Italian literary works and study grants for foreign students are among the most important aspects of this promotional activity, along with the administration of a complex network of Italian scholastic institutions located abroad.
For this purpose, in concert with the diplomatic-consular network and its Cultural Institutes, the ministry stipulates scientific and cultural agreements and protocols with other countries, aimed at funding and facilitating various forms of collaboration.
Of major importance also are efforts in the multilateral context of UNESCO, of which Italy is a principal contributor both financially as well as in terms of ideas, expertise and projects.
