Small And Light Weapons (SALW)

Italy is also active within the process under way in the UN against illegal trafficking in small and light weapons (SALW), in particular through its active participation in the conference to review the Action Plan of July 2006.

In 2005 the EU drafted the “European Union Strategy to combat illicit accumulation and trafficking of SALW and their ammunition”. Finally there is also OSCE’s “Document on Small Arms and Light Weapons” of 2000.

Indeed, OSCE is one of the main forums concerned not only with the definition of best practices but also as regards the destruction of excesses of small weapons.
