The National Committee for Bio-security, Biotechnologies and Life Sciences (CNBBSV) is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organise a workshop within the context of the G8 Development Ministers’ Meeting entitled “Global Health Strategy. The Case of Neglected and Tropical Diseases”.
Attention has been drawn over recent years to three major life-threatening diseases: HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. According to the Committee, far too little has been done to combat neglected and tropical diseases, which mainly strike the populations of poor and developing nations. Among the five strategic projects of the Industria 2015 programme “New Life Sciences Technologies”, Italy has singled out neglected diseases.
The Workshop is also intended as a forum in which to discuss the arrangement of a seminar of G8 countries and associates to be held in the coming autumn that will focus on the problems associated with neglected diseases.
