Armenia: new italian teaching post at Yerevan university

23 November 2011

The Italian Ambassador in Armenia, Bruno Scapini, has inaugurated a new Italian teaching post at the Yerevan State Institute of Foreign Languages after V. Brusov, following Prof. Daniele Pennacchia’s appointment to this university.

The creation of this post – the first ever in the history of Italy’s relations with the Brusov Institute – marks a new and important page in cultural cooperation between the two countries. It is also a milestone in the work – which the Embassy is pursuing with great energy – to promote the Italian language and culture in Armenia. In the Armenian socio-cultural context, Italy is viewed as a model in terms of life-style, culture and economic-commercial interests.

This new initiative will enhance the Brusov Institute’s capacity to attract students, adding to the over 640 students already enrolled in Italian courses in 2010.

Of equal strategic importance is another initiative, this time to introduce Italian language learning in a leading secondary school (the Lycée after Anania Shirakatsy) in the capital city, Yerevan. The aim here is to foster the creation at high-school level of a pool of potential students to boost even further the numbers enrolling in Italian courses at university-level.
