Minister Frattini hails the new success of the Interministerial Task Force against the international abduction of minors

Roma 24 October 2009

“It is with extreme satisfaction that I announce another major success for the Interministerial Task Force against the International Abduction of Minors”, asserted Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Franco Frattini.

Little Alice and Giulia, detained illegally by their father in Peru for over three years, are finally on a plane home. The operation required the intervention of Interpol and the constant support of our Embassy in Lima. The children were in a particularly difficult situation and neither their mother nor the Italian government had had news of them for over three years. Only the intervention by the Task Force, under the continuous supervision of the foreign ministry, led to tracking Alice and Giulia down, allowing them first to be reunited with their mother and then, after several difficult days, to be repatriated to Italy. The embassy had held them under its protection for several days in order to avoid the risk of being abducted again. “This outcome, like many others achieved this year in similar cases, shows how collaboration between the foreign, justice and interior ministries and System Italy units is achieving the desired results in the protection of our children detained illegally in foreign places”, stated the minister, “I would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of this very delicate operation”.
