Minister for Foreign Affairs Franco Frattini met this afternoon at length for an in-depth exchange of views on the main international dossiers with President of the UN General Assembly Ali Treki.
With regard to development cooperation President Treki underscored the importance the United Nations places on the high level event on the Millennium Development Goals to be held in New York in September 2010. Minister Frattini pointed out that Italy had already taken the Millennium Goals as its guidelines in development cooperation activities.
Minister Frattini reiterated Italy’s position on Security Council reform, confirming expectations of an impartial and balanced leadership in negotiations between the members of the United Nations aied at an overall reform based on the broadest possible consensus.
Minister Frattini and President Ali Treki had a frank Exchange of views on the open challenges and common objectives of Italy and the UN in light of Copenhagen. Finally, Minister Frattini and the General Assembly President discussed Sudan, the Middle East and the world’s other main crisis areas.
