Foreign Ministry assigns talented students new study grants at the La Scala Theatrical Academy

Rome 24 November 2009

Within the framework of the convention stipulated in 2005 with the Fondazione Accademia d’Arti e Mestieri dello Spettacolo Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assigned new study grants for the academic year 2009-2010. The 9-month grants will be distributed to lyric signers from Albania, Bulgaria, South Korea, Georgia, Germany, Russia and South Africa who have passed the Academy’s rigorous auditions.

The Academy is a highly prestigious and internationally renowned institution that plays a primary role in training new talent. The approximately 600 new students that the Academy trains each year hone their skills alongside the most qualified experts and top professionals of La Scala. The training course ends each year with the “Academy Project”, which is included on the theatre’s playbill, to which all the students contribute. The latest edition saw the participation of the students of the Barenboim Said Foundation in Ramallah, from Israel, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon performing Mendelssohn’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Donizeetti’s “Le convenienze e inconvenienze teatrali”.

Such initiatives fall within the context of the special projects that the foreign ministry promotes with a view to strengthening Italy’s cultural relations with other countries, aiming also at the goal of internationalizing the excellent training activities offered by Italy.
