Minister Terzi on United Nations Security Council presidential statement on the Syrian crisis

Rome 21 March 2012

“The Security Council’s presidential statement on the Syrian crisis represents progress in the pursuance of the international community’s priority objectives”. This was Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi’s comment on the document released by the UN today.

“It is crucial that we bring the maximum unity to our efforts at stopping the violence, launching a political process founded on full respect for fundamental freedoms, and access by humanitarian relief organisations to the areas in need”, Minister Terzi added.

“Italy fully supports the efforts by UN and Arab League Special Envoy for the Syrian Crisis Kofi Annan. It is now time”, Terzi concluded, “for the Syrian government to rapidly and exhaustively comply with Anna’s 6-point plan, which is the only possible route to a political solution to the crisis in Syria”.
