“This is a negative signal. It confirms the urgent need for all sides to increase the pressure on Assad to provide space for a Syrian-led political transition that is both inevitable and urgent. A transition that makes it possible to bring to an end a tragedy that is affecting the civilian population, and its weakest members, in a manner that is unacceptable”. This was Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi’s comment on hearing of the resignation of the UN and Arab League Envoy for the Syrian crisis, Kofi Annan.
