Four Italian journalists freed

Rome 13 April 2013

Interim Foreign Minister Mario Monti announced that the four Italian journalists detained in northern Syria on 4 April had been freed.

“I wish to thank the Foreign Ministry Crisis Unit”, Moti said, “and all the other State agencies whose professional commitment in a particularly dangerous context helped to make this positive outcome possible”.

Premier Monti, who had been monitoring the case from the start, also expressed his “gratitude to the media for having complied with the request for reserve, and in that way fostering a rapid resolution to the affair.
