Africa - “Migrations and International Relations: The Italy-Africa Agenda” in a conference at the Italian Foreign Ministry

Migration as an essential element in foreign policy and particularly in the relationships between Italy and Africa are the central themes of a conference organised by the Piedmont Centre for African Studies together with the Institute of International Affairs (IAI) at Italy’s Foreign Ministry headquarters in Rome on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni,  and  Pietro Marcenaro, President of the Piedmont Centre for African Studies will open the meeting. 


   The issue of displaced persons and refugees within the broader context of migration will be on the agenda. Speakers at the first session on "Migration, Rights and International Relations", to be moderated by Alberto Negri from Il Sole24Ore will include: Ferruccio Pastore from the European and International Forum on Migration Research (FIERI)), Gianni Bonvicini from the Institute of International Affairs and Luigi Manconi, president of the Italian Senate’s Human Rights Commission. Speakers scheduled for the second session on "Migration and Relations between Italy and Africa", to be moderated by Ugo Melchionda, IDOS President, will be: Massimo Livi Bacci (President of Neodemos), Lia Quartapelle (from the Italian Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs Commission), Mario Deaglio (Economist ), and Piero Fassino (President of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, ANCI).
