Guglielmo Picchi

Born in Florence on the 26th of April 1973.

After graduating with summa cum laude from the University of Florence and obtaining a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the SDA Bocconi School of Management, he began his political activity in 1993, and contributed to founding Forza Italia in Tuscany.

In 1995, he was elected District Councillor in the Municipal Council of Florence on the list of Forza Italia.

In 2002, he started working in a London-based investment bank, of which he is still an executive on unpaid leave. He boasts professional experiences with KPMG, GE Oil and Gas, Fiat Real Estate, and E&Y Real Estate.

In April 2006, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the “Europe” zone of the Overseas Constituency with 5,362 preference votes.

In April 2008, he was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the same Overseas Constituency with 13,239 preference votes.

He was member of the Foreign and Community Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and of the Italian Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). As member of the Italian Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, he was elected Vice-Chair of the PA’s General Committee on Political Affairs and Vice-Chair and representative of Italy in the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Migration, as well as member of the Counter-terrorism Committee. He has participated in more than 30 election observation missions in Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, USA, Moldova, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

On 25 February 2013, he was re-elected in the electoral list of the People of Freedom (PDL) – Italian Centre-Right, in the “Europe” zone of the Overseas Constituency with 20,765 preference votes. He was the only candidate of the PDL-Italian Centre-Right to be elected abroad.

In March 2016, he decided to discontinue his engagement with the PDL and to join the Lega Nord (Northern League).

In April 2016, he organised the meeting between Donald Trump and the Secretary of the Northern League, Matteo Salvini, for whom he subsequently became Adviser for foreign and defence policy.

At the parliamentary elections of 2018, he was re-elected on the list of the Northern League: unlike in the preceding elections, he did not win a seat in the Overseas Constituency but in Tuscany.

On the 12th of June 2018, he was appointed Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs with delegated powers for South America, NATO and military goods, the EFTA, the OSCE, UNESCO and over the dissemination of the Italian culture and language abroad.
