It is difficult to sum up in just a few lines a life as full as that of Ennio Odino’s. As a resistance fighter he escaped a massacre in Liguria, and was then interned in Mauthausen concentration camp. After he was freed he returned to Italy, where he became a professional cyclist alongside Fausto Coppi. He then became a European Union official in Brussels, and president of the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) in Belgium. This was how Laura Garavini, member of the PD Group in the Chamber of Deputies, summed up Ennio Odino’s life when he passed away in December 2014.
To remember Odino, the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels has organised a conference entitled “Pedalling with Crik for Freedom”. “Crik” was the nom de guerre of this icon of love for his roots and homeland, and for sport and freedom. The event was organised in collaboration with the Brussels section of ANPI. Read more, in Italian.
