The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, accompanied by Italy's Permanent Representative to the European Union, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, and by the Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Michele Giacomelli, met today in Brussels, as part of the Italian Presidency of the “Berlin Process” , the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement, Johaness Hahn.
The meeting was an opportunity to share the priorities of the Italian Presidency and initiatives to be jointly promoted ahead of the Summit of the Western Balkan Process, to take place in Italy in summer.
The talks focused also on a further development of transport infrastructure, essential to enhance the economic competitiveness of the countries involved, as well as on the organization of events that could take place on the sidelines of the Summit to be hosted in Italy. They would regard themes such as the growth of SMEs, spreading good governance, youth policies, and technological innovation.
In a context of shared objectives and views, the future prospects of the Berlin Process and the planning of upcoming preparatory events for the Summit were also discussed.
