Today, in view of tomorrow’s Ministerial Conference "A shared responsibility for a common goal: solidarity and security”, which is dedicated to the Countries of Origin and Transit of migration flows, the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, met with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Sudan, Ibrahim A. Ghandour.
“We acknowledge Sudan’s role along the East Africa migration route and especially in the Khartoum Process, an instrument which is key in putting a stop to irregular migration flows and human trafficking,” said Minister Alfano.
He affirmed: “We greatly appreciate the effort that Sudan is making in welcoming a large number of refugees on its territory.”
During the meeting, the two ministers also addressed bilateral issues, concentrating special focus on the possibility of broadening the two Countries’ economic relations and on the main points on the regional agenda, from Libya to the Gulf crisis and the tension in the Horn of Africa.
“Italy is fully aware of the role played by Sudan in bridging Sub-Saharan and Mediterranean Africa, which is why we are convinced that a stable Sudan will be capable of assuring peace and stability in both regions,” concluded Minister Alfano.
