Johannesburg hosts an exhibition to celebrate 70 years of Italian fashion

The reproductions of 30 iconic vintage models of Italian haute couture are showcased at a retrospective exhibition entitled "70 years of Fashion Genius." Organized by Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg and curated by Francesco Lofaro, the exhibition displays the best in Italian fashion handicraft and is also an opportunity to celebrate 14 Italian master designers who have made Italian fashion design known the world over. These include: Roberto Capucci, Ken Scott, Renato Balestra, Curiel, Roberta di Camerino, Franco Moschino, Irene Galitzine, Sorelle Fontana Alta Moda s.r.l, Gianni Versace, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Emilio Pucci, Giorgio Armani, and Ferragamo.

First launched around the world in the 1950s, Italian fashion, whose creativity draws on the rich cultural heritage and handicraft traditions, has become a symbol of resilience, rebirth and growth; embodying the feeling of its people, a palpable passion for art and the ingenuity of adapting to change while preserving its territorial identity of being “Made in Italy.” "70 Years of Fashion Genius" will stay open to the public in Johannesburg until 7 April, 2019.
