Munich: Rag Theatres in remembrance of Emanuele Luzzati

Last night, the Italian Cultural Institute in Munich opened the exhibition ‘Rag Theatres. Daniele Sulevic and Emanuele Luzzati’ with the screening of the film "Il flauto magico. Dall'opera di Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart" by Emanuele Luzzati. Until 5 April, the halls of the Cultural Institute will display the textile works by Daniele Sulevic, which draw from the fairy-tale world of Emanuele Luzzati, from the sketches for the film ‘Il Flauto Magico di Mozart’, from the magic world of the Orient, and from the Venice of L’Italiana in Algeri and the flying donkeys from Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird.

Sulevic studied at the Bezalel Academy of Fine Arts in Jerusalem and is a ceramic artist and costume and set designer whose cooperation with Emanuele Luzzati started from a chance encounter in 1974. The artist, who has been living in Liguria since 1973, tells the story: “He asked me to design the war costumes for King Lear, directed by Tonino Conte for the Teatro della Tosse in Genoa; the very first costumes I designed. Our cooperation inside and outside the theatres, enriched by our personal friendship, continued till the very last day of his life.”
