As part of the events organised for EXPO Milan and the European Year for Development, the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGDC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) is organising a concert entitled “Food Moves the World” to celebrate World Food Day. The event will take place at the Conference Centre Auditorium on Thursday 15 October 2015. It is being organised in collaboration with the Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection of the European Commission, UN EXPO, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Italian-Latin American Institute (IILA).
Performances by the “No Hunger Orchestra” and “Fronteras Musicales Abiertas”, created through international cooperation projects, will open the event. Giovanni Allevi, composer and pianist, will perform on the piano.
Attendees at the event will include Giampaolo Cantini, Director General for Development Cooperation; Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director General of the FAO; and Mihela Zupancic, Head of the Information and Communication Department at the Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection of the European Commission.
World Food Day, introduced by the FAO, is dedicated this year to the importance of social protection and agriculture in breaking the cycle of rural poverty. It provides a unique opportunity, in keeping also with the Charter of Milan, to send out a strong message to young people – Generation Zero Hunger – on the recently adopted Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. It is also an opportunity to involve young people in the challenge to eradicate hunger and poverty over the coming 15 years.
Journalists, photographers and TV crews interested in following the event should first apply for accreditation with EXPO 2015 at the following link: https://accreditation.expo2015.org/mediahome.aspx?lang=IT and then send an email request to email@example.com
Organisers will provide a ticket to the EXPO, subject to supply, to confirmed attendees. Tickets will be valid for the entire day of 15 October. Arrangements for delivery or collection of tickets will be provided once attendees confirm their participation.
