Attracting Foreign Direct Investment
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is committed on a daily basis to making the Italian system increasingly competitive and attractive. To this end, MAECI has placed economic diplomacy at the centre of its activities, including attracting financial capital and productive investment from abroad.
In this respect, MAECI plays a central role in the ongoing dialogue with major foreign companies interested in investing in Italy, both in communicating the investment opportunities existing in our territory and in enhancing the reforms that have contributed to creating an increasingly business-friendly environment in Italy.
While playing this role, the Foreign Ministry makes available to the Italian system an extraordinary asset, i.e. the diplomatic and consular network (MAECI – Italian Missions abroad), which makes it possible which covers the main foreign markets and is the first authoritative and recognizable point of contact for institutional and large private investors.
In 2017 a specific Office (Office III – Directorate General for Country Promotion) was created, serving as a connection point for attracting foreign investment to Italy. MAECI is also a permanent member of the Foreign Investment Attraction Committee, a reference forum for the coordination of investment attraction policies (Governance).
