The issues of energy transition and the fight against climate change are increasingly at the centre of the global and EU debate. Their impact on foreign policy is also evident: although the EU plays a leading role at world level, it is in fact responsible for 8% of global emissions (Italy for less than 1%). A proactive action of climate diplomacy is therefore needed vis-à-vis the other major players in the world economy, with a view to developing joint actions and collaborations aimed at fully implementing the Paris Agreement and curbing global warming. In view of reaching this goal, MAECI places the issue of energy security and transition at the centre of bilateral relations with our main international partners. In the various regional and multilateral fora in which Italy participates, it also works to promote concrete commitments on climate also in the framework of the International Organisations operating in the sector, as well as within the G7 and G20.
