The Farnesina opens its doors to contemporary Irish art. The “40/40/40” exhibition, consisting of works from the Irish State Collection, opens here at the Foreign Ministry today, Thursday 13 June 2013. The exhibition was organised by the Irish Embassy in Italy, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Office of Public Works.
40 artists under 40 to celebrate 40 years in the EU
The exhibition comes to Rome, after showing in Madrid and Warsaw, to mark the close of the Irish EU Presidency. It is intended to celebrate Ireland’s 40th anniversary as a member of the European Union and the important role of young people in designing Europe’s future.
The works on display were created by 40 artists under the age of 40, both Irish or who have chosen to live in Ireland. They reflect current trends in contemporary art through a range of techniques and media that include photography, drawing, sculpture and painting.
The Irish Ambassador in Rome, Patrick Hennessy, will be present at the opening, along with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Italy.
