The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, met today, at the Foreign Ministry, with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama.
The meeting was a useful opportunity to confirm the strong closeness of the Italian institutions and people, in the wake of the devastation caused to Albania by the earthquake of 26 November 2019, and the will to contribute to the success of the Donors Conference in Brussels, on 17 February.
“Italy and Albania are forcefully committed to further consolidating our already strong bilateral collaboration, within the framework of the strategic partnership we have built up over the past ten years”, said the Foreign Minister.
Mr. Di Maio also stressed our Country’s full support to the EU Membership process undertaken by Albania and also involving the Western Balkan region. Italy will step up its efforts, at the highest levels, to come to swift decision regarding the opening of accession negotiations with Tirana and Skopje, possibly during the European Council in March.
