Under-Secretary Giro meets with Deputy Foreign Minister of Salvador Castaneda Magana

“Special relationship between Italy and El Salvador, working to ensure the social inclusion and security of Central Americans”. An invitation to President Funes to the Italy-Latin American and Caribbean Conference in December.


Under-Secretary of State Mario Giro met with Deputy Foreign Minister of El Salvador Castaneda Magana to review Italy’s special relationship with that country; a relationship that stands as a model in Central America for addressing the problem of security through public policies of inclusion and welfare. El Salvador is also an important country in light of the community 50,000 Salvadorans living in Italy.


“El Salvador is a priority country for cooperation efforts, and Italy confirms its commitment to honing its investigative capacity in the fight against organised crime. Italy supports President Funes’ “social pact”, “because crime is confronted by offering opportunities to young people”, Giro stated.


The representatives of the two governments confirmed the importance of strengthening Central American cooperation in combating organised crime, in addition to the need for encounter and discussion of the economic and social models in place.


Finally, Under-Secretary Giro announced that President Funes would be invited to close the Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference to be held in Rome in December.
