The Italian Cooperation service’s humanitarian activities in Yemen

In response to the extremely serious humanitarian crisis that continues to afflict Yemen, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, approved a package of emergency measures worth 5 million euros to support the humanitarian activities put in place by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Food Program (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Country. With this, Italy fully honours the pledge made at the Yemen pledging conference in Geneva on 26 February. With more than 24 million people needing assistance, the measures adopted by the Italian Cooperation service will make it possible to relieve the suffering of the Yemeni people by strengthening the activities carried out by the humanitarian Agencies that involve the distribution of basic food commodities, fighting malnutrition among children, providing legal aid and protection to rape victims under international humanitarian law, and assuring medical assistance and orthopaedic rehabilitation to the survivors of explosions and airstrikes through the supply of prostheses.
