Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, met at the Farnesina with his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna.
In the wake of the Quirinal Treaty, Minister Tajani expressed the will to further intensify the strengthened bilateral cooperation between Italy and France, which represents one of our Country’s principal economic partners as well as a key ally within the European Union, NATO, the G7 and the G20. Minister Tajani underscored that Italy’s international action remains inspired by the same Euro-Atlantic values shared by France.
The meeting enabled the establishment of a coordination system between the two Ministries on European issues, in the common awareness that the decisions that are key to meeting national interests are taken within the European Union. In consideration of the energy problem in particular, the ministers agreed on the importance of the results of the latest European Council of 20-21 October, hoping for the full and speedy application of the commitments made therein. At the same time, they expressed their intention to further analyse key issues for the future of the Union such as reforming the Stability and Growth Pact, the migration dossier, and strengthening the European defence capabilities.
Ministers Tajani and Colonna reaffirmed Italy’s and France’s firm and full support for peace and justice in Ukraine, as well as their common commitment to the Country’s independence and freedom, and to maintaining an unflaggingly firm stand against the Russian Federation.
