On 29 August, the photography exhibition “Letizia Battaglia. Chronicle, Life, Love” was inaugurated at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires. The event was attended by the Italian Ambassador, Fabrizio Lucentini, the Director of the Centro Cultural Recoleta, Maximiliano Tomas, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires, Livia Raponi. The ceremony took place in front of a large audience, with the participation of representatives from the local press.
Curated by Marco Meneguzzo and organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires in collaboration with the Letizia Battaglia Archive and under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, the exhibition offers a profound and engaging look at the career of the legendary Italian photojournalist Letizia Battaglia. Through a selection of 89 original black and white photographs, visitors can explore the Palermo captured by Battaglia’s lens, showcasing its beauty and contradictions, from the rough testimony of mafia crime violence to depictions of everyday life, also revealing the innocence of the most vulnerable.
The exhibition will be open to the public until 3 November 2024, offering a unique opportunity to reflect on the legacy left by this extraordinary photographer two years after her passing in April 2022.
