In Santiago, the exhibition “Letizia Battaglia. Crónica, vida, amor”, curated by Marco Meneguzzo and with the collaboration of the Archivio Letizia Battaglia, in the presence of the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Santiago, Cristina Di Giorgio, the Secretary of the Legation of the Italian Embassy in Santiago, Althea Cenciarelli, and the Director of the MAC Museum, Daniel Cruz, which will remain open to the public until 26 January.

The Chilean stop was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Santiago and the MAC Museum of Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Chile and the Italian Cultural Association.

The project is supported by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the work of the network of Italian Cultural Institutes in Caracas, Córdoba, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Mexico City, to promote Italian contemporary photography.

“We are particularly happy to have brought Battaglia’s work to the slopes of the Andes right at the MAC Museum. Exhibiting these photographs means giving the Chilean public the opportunity to get to know our country from a perspective that is certainly different from the one they are used to: undoubtedly harsher and more complex, but at the same time deeply touching and fascinating,” commented Cristina Di Giorgio, Director of the IIC in Santiago.

The selection of eighty-eight photographs by Letizia Battaglia traces, from her beginnings to the present day, the extraordinary career of one of the bravest photojournalists of her time. The exhibition recounts, in fact, the enormous photojournalism work of Battaglia in Sicily, where the photographer became witness of the Mafia wars, documenting with raw realism the horror and everyday reality of this kind of death.
