\u201cItaly for Sudan\u201d is the Italian Government\u2019s initiative aimed at providing a coordinated and concrete response to the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict and the high number of internally displaced persons. Italy\u2019s efforts focus on supporting the most vulnerable segments of the population, with particular attention to children, students, and families forced to abandon their homes.<\/p>\n

The initiative was launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, as part of an extraordinary mobilisation of Italian Cooperation in support of the Sudanese population.<\/p>\n

HUMANITARIAN AID <\/strong><\/p>\n

Operations began on 25 December 2025<\/strong>, with the arrival of the first humanitarian flight in Port Sudan, marking the operational start of the \u201cItaly for Sudan\u201d programme. The first shipment consisted of approximately 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid<\/strong>, including essential goods, intended for 2,500 students.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In early April 2026, a second tranche of aid<\/strong> was distributed in Port Sudan, including additional essential food supplies such as pasta, flour, beans, rice, oil, and safe drinking water. The mission also provided an opportunity to inaugurate the laboratory of the Port Sudan Association for the Blind and to visit some projects implemented with the support of Italian Cooperation.<\/p>\n

Overall, the interventions planned by the end of April include the delivery of up to 107 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, destined for 4,245 displaced families across 31 camps in Red Sea State<\/strong>. The aid provided includes family tents, hygiene kits, mattresses, mosquito nets, water tanks and kitchen utensils, aimed at improving the living conditions of populations affected by the crisis.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of \u201cItaly for Sudan\u201d, in March 2026 Italy also contributed EUR 5 million to FAO<\/strong> to support emergency agricultural assistance and livestock-based livelihoods and EUR 1 million to FICROSS<\/strong> to ensure access to safe drinking water, provide shelter and deliver medical assistance to communities most affected by the conflict in Darfur.<\/p>\n

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES<\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of \u201cItaly for Sudan\u201d, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tajani will travel to Berlin on 15 April 2026 to participate in the Third International Conference on Sudan, organised by Germany together with the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and the African Union.<\/p>\n

The Berlin Conference follows on from meetings held in Paris (2024) and London (2025) and will bring together representatives of the United Nations, regional and international organisations, Sudanese civil society, NGOs and major donors. Its objective is to strengthen the response to the ongoing crisis and to support a pathway towards lasting peace and a transition led by civilian authorities.<\/p>\n
