A positive agenda for the Mediterranean, between transition and signs of recovery <\/p>\n On 2 to 4 December 2021<\/strong>, the 7th edition of the\u00a0Rome MED \u2013 Mediterranean Dialogues Conference,<\/strong>\u00a0sponsored since 2015 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ISPI, will be held in Roma, at Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi (Via Gerolamo Frescobaldi 5), in hybrid mode, that is, taking place both online and in person and live streamed on the Ministry\u2019s web platform.<\/p>\n The event will be officially opened on Friday, 3 December,<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0by addresses, delivered in person, by Mario Draghi<\/strong>, President of the Council of Ministers, Luigi Di Maio,\u00a0<\/strong>Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and\u00a0Giampiero Massolo,<\/strong>\u00a0President of ISPI. The\u00a0MED-Dialogues<\/strong>\u00a0event will close on Saturday, 4 December,<\/strong>\u00a0with a closing address by Minister Luigi Di Maio.\u00a0<\/strong>Instead, on\u00a02 December,\u00a0<\/strong>a preview event \u2013 the Med-Fora<\/strong> \u2013 will be held consisting in a series of international seminars.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Conference will be attended, both in person and online<\/u><\/strong> by the following persons \u2013 among others \u2013 Josep Borrell<\/strong>, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Paolo Gentiloni<\/strong>, European Commissioner for Economy; J. Pedersen<\/strong>, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria;\u00a0Staffan De Mistura<\/strong>, Personal Envoy of the Secretary General for Western Sahara, United Nations;\u00a0 Emanuela Del Re<\/strong>, European Union Special Representative for the Sahel; Sven Koopmans<\/strong>, Special Representative for the Peace Process in the Middle East, European Union;\u00a0Zhan Jun<\/strong>, Special Chinese Envoy for the Middle East;\u00a0Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo<\/strong>, OPEC Secretary General.<\/p>\n MED Dialogues 2021<\/strong> aims to develop “a positive agenda” for the Mediterranean, at a time of pandemic and political and economic transition, based on multilateralism as a strategy for conflict resolution. Among the strategic themes at the heart of the debate are the main security challenges, innovative policies for the management of migratory flows, the fate of the younger generations after the pandemic, the main actions to accelerate the transition towards a green and sustainable economy, the complex problems posed by the climate emergency and reviving the Middle East peace process. It will be an opportunity to discuss how to respond cooperatively to the widespread need for security in a complex and multifaceted region. The future of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, the role of NATO and the strategies of the European Union, the United States and Russia for the area will also be discussed.<\/p>\n Last but not least, the\u00a0Med Fora<\/strong>\u00a0seminars held on 2 December will investigate strategic issues for the region, such as the role of women and their contribution to social and economic growth, the economic relevance of infrastructure, the complexity of the migratory issue, the strategic role of cyber security, and the contribution of civil society in the Mediterranean countries.<\/p>\n MED Dialogues<\/strong>\u00a0has become a\u00a0year-long initiative<\/strong>: over the last few months, in fact, no less than thirty meetings have been held, in digital mode, with top-level international personalities, to strengthen the contribution of ideas and proposals and discuss the situation in the key countries in the region.<\/p>\n The speeches may be followed directly in the conference room (Sala Fernandez), by the photographers and media operators, and in the Press Room, by audio\/video, by the journalists accredited to attend in person.<\/p>\n
