The two counterparts first agreed to give continuity\u00a0to the political dialogue\u00a0, within the framework of the excellent bilateral relations, and deepen further economic cooperation prospects, especially in the most innovative sectors, such as green energy.<\/p>\n
The meeting\u00a0has\u00a0also focused on cooperation between Italy and Norway in the Arctic, particularly in scientific research and the fight against climate change.\u00a0Deputy Minister\u00a0Della Vedova and\u00a0Secretary of State\u00a0Halvorsen\u00a0have\u00a0agreed that the growing international attention paid to the Arctic is associated with environmental concerns and the possibilities of greater economic exploitation connected with the progressive melting of the ice and the region’s sensitivity\u00a0on the\u00a0international scene in terms of security.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister\u00a0has\u00a0confirmed Italy’s commitment, as Observer of the Arctic Council, to the region’s governance while fully respecting the sovereign rights of the Arctic\u00a0States.\u00a0Deputy Minister\u00a0Della Vedova\u00a0has\u00a0stressed that “at the core of Italian action in the area, there is a long tradition of commitment in scientific research\u00a0hinging\u00a0around the “Dirigibile Italia” base, in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, aimed at environmental conservation and fight against climate change.<\/p>\n
