The Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare<\/i> – INFN) and the Joint\u00a0Institute\u00a0for\u00a0Nuclear\u00a0Research\u00a0(JINR) have renewed their framework agreement for scientific cooperation. The agreement was signed by INFN President, Fernando\u00a0Ferroni, and JINR Director,\u00a0Victor A.\u00a0Matveev,\u00a0in the presence of Italian President,\u00a0Sergio Mattarella. The signing ceremony was attended by Cesare Maria\u00a0Ragaglini, the Italian Ambassador in Moscow, Pietro\u00a0Fr\u00e8, the Embassy’s Scientific Attach\u00e9, and the Italian delegation, including the Vice Presidents of INFN, Antonio Masiero and Antonio Zoccoli, and the INFN Director of International Relations, Roberto Pellegrini. \u201cThe Agreement,\u00a0that we have renewed in the presence of President Mattarella \u2013 explained the INFN President, Fernando\u00a0Ferroni\u00a0\u2013 provides for collaboration between INFN and an international institute which has offered researchers from many countries a significant opportunity to speak the common language of physics. Today the JINR is\u00a0engaged in promoting\u00a0its future propects while\u00a0envisioning a significant role for Italian science and industry\u201d. \u201cAnd, particularly as Italians, we cannot fail to highlight the historic role this institute has played: because the JINR is also the laboratory where Bruno Pontecorvo developed all the ideas that made him a protagonist of physics in the last century\u201d, concluded\u00a0Ferroni.
The Agreement, now renewed for six years (2017-2022), is in keeping with a tradition of wide-ranging cooperation on the theoretical and experimental aspects of nuclear physics, high energies, astroparticle physics and technological research, in addition to providing for different forms of collaboration between the two Institutes, involving exchanges of researchers (both senior and junior), information, technologies and scientific equipment. The agreement also aims to promote the joint organisation of events that may encourage and facilitate all these collaborations, including scientific workshops, conferences, training schools.<\/p>\n
