Minister Alfano confirmed that \u201cItaly looks at the Philippines as a key partner in Southeast Asia\u201d. \u00a0Minister Alfano added: \u201cToday\u2019s signing of the Memorandum on the bilateral consultation mechanism between the Foreign Ministries will enable us to consolidate our political cooperation on bilateral and global issues and especially to intensify economic and cultural relations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Alfano reiterated \u201cthe Italian Government\u2019s full support to the Philippine\u2019s Chairmanship of ASEAN\u201d, which was inaugurated on 1 January. He went on to repeat \u201cthe interest of Italy, as of the rest of Europe, in the Association\u2019s sustainable growth and stability\u201d. He added: \u201cASEAN can play a crucial role in maintaining peace, security and stability in Southeast Asia and in the entire Asian region.\u201d Minister Alfano also confirmed Italy\u2019s interest in the area: \u201cPrecisely today I invited the Italian Ambassadors accredited to the 10 Southeast Asian Countries to study an operational strategy aimed at promoting Italy\u2019s presence in a market that offers considerable opportunities to our companies.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The meeting also offered the opportunity to evaluate the political developments that are currently occurring in the Asian Country. \u201cItaly is closely following the developments in the peace process in the Philippines, supporting the Government\u2019s efforts to seek a wide-reaching dialogue between the different parties,\u201d Mr Alfano concluded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u00a0 The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, received today at the Farnesina the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, Perfecto\u00a0Yasay\u00a0Jr. The meeting focused on the excellence of bilateral relations, which will celebrate their 70th anniversary this year.
