Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio,\u00a0has\u00a0received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia, Othman Jerandi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
Minister Di Maio\u00a0has reaffirmed\u00a0his intention to\u00a0further strengthen\u00a0political and economic ties with\u00a0Tunisia, Italy’s strategic partner in the region.
Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0emphasised that Tunisia’s stability is essential for the equilibrium of the entire Euro-Mediterranean\u00a0region\u00a0and\u00a0has\u00a0assured Italy’s full support for the reforms that the Tunisian authorities will undertake. With the international community’s contribution, such reforms will ensure\u00a0prospects for\u00a0stability and prosperity\u00a0in\u00a0the country.
To confirm Italy’s special attention to the North African country, Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0invited Minister Jerandi to attend the G20 meeting of Foreign Ministers in Matera on 29 June.
Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0also highlighted Italy’s commitment at the European level within the EU’s new approach to the Southern Neighbourhood. He\u00a0has\u00a0recalled, in particular, the importance of the economic and investment plan.<\/p>\n
Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0reiterated the importance of bilateral cooperation to manage migration flows. He\u00a0has\u00a0expressed appreciation for the Tunisian authorities’ efforts in the fight against\u00a0illegal\u00a0immigration and the positive developments in the field of readmissions. Italy and Tunisia must continue to cooperate with flexibility and promptness.
