\u201cOn Libya, We have a shared commitment to prevent the country from splitting, and to involve regional countries and the world\u2019s major countries, from a perspective of dialogue and moderation\u201d. Minister Paolo Gentiloni, who was speaking after his bilateral meeting with his German colleague Frank-Walter Steinmeier, added that the two countries also see eye to eye on Ukraine. Berlin was the first stage of his first mission abroad, which later today will take him to Paris and Madrid.<\/P>

Gentiloni underscored that Italy supports the UN Envoy\u2019s mission and intends to work to strengthen it. \u201cI found Steinmeier to be very receptive because he realises that a<\/A>ny deterioration in the situation, or even a division of the country, would have consequences not just for Italy\u2019s coasts, but for Europe as a whole\u201d. At the joint press conference, Minister Gentiloni pointed out that his day had begun with the \u201cexcellent news\u201d of the release of Italian technician Marco Vallisa, who was kidnapped in Libya in July 2014. <\/P>

Immigration \u2013 agreement and similar humanitarian approach<\/STRONG><\/P>

On immigration, Gentiloni underscored that the new mission \u2013 the transition from \u201c’Mare Nostrum\u201d to \u201cTriton\u201d, will not entail a change of approach or objective.
