According to the project\u2019s promoters, this will qualify as the Middle East\u2019s largest special economic zone, and currently includes 32 projects in various stages of development, with investments estimated at approximately 9 billion euro. Among these a new seaport (already partially operational), a dry dock, a railway line and an airport, residential housing, tourism and industrial areas, a waste water treatment system and a desalination plant. Future projects include the construction of a 230-barrel-capacity refinery, a petrochemical hub and a gas pipeline.
