A child, who had been illegitimately taken away from his Italian mother and brought to Turkey, landed at Bergamo Airport over the weekend, thus bringing to an end a delicate affair that had arisen in 2020.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, said: \u201cI am happy that the child has finally returned home\u201d\u2019 He thanked the Foreign Ministry\u2019s officials for their work, emphasising the Italian government’s \u201cconstant commitment to the protection of our compatriots around the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
The affair – on which Prime Minister Meloni had also been personally involved on several occasions – has been followed from the very beginning with the utmost attention by the Izmir Consulate and the Italian Embassy in Ankara, in close coordination with the Foreign Ministry\u2019s Unit for the Protection of Italians Abroad, which provided all necessary assistance to the mother and child, sensitising the local authorities to the importance of reaching a positive solution of the affair as soon as possible.
