Both events were preceded by a speech from <strong>Ambassador<\/strong> Andrea <strong>Silvestri<\/strong>, who recalled the <strong>origins<\/strong> of this <strong>ancient tradition<\/strong> and the <strong>significance<\/strong> of the <strong>Popular Orchestra<\/strong>, which promotes and enhances the musical tradition of Salento, attracting over 200,000 spectators to Puglia each year.<\/p>\n<p>The hypnotic and driving rhythm of the <strong>tambourine<\/strong> and the evocative power of the songs of love, struggle, and work transported the audience on an emotional journey through the history and traditions of <strong>Salento<\/strong>, a crossroads of different peoples and cultures.<\/p>\n<p>The beauty of traditional music was brought to life through sounds and dances by <strong>singers<\/strong> Enza <strong>Pagliara<\/strong> and Giancarlo <strong>Paglialunga<\/strong>, accompanied by <strong>musicians<\/strong> Nico <strong>Berardi<\/strong> (wind instruments), Gianluca <strong>Longo<\/strong> (mandola), Antonio <strong>Marra<\/strong> (drums), Mario <strong>Esposito<\/strong> (bass), Alessandro <strong>Chiga<\/strong> and Carlo <strong>De Pascali<\/strong> (tambourine), Attilio <strong>Turrisi<\/strong> (chitarra battente), and Bruno <strong>Galeone<\/strong> (accordion), under the direction of anthropologist and mandolinist Peppo <strong>Grassi<\/strong>.
