{"id":123459,"date":"2024-09-24T12:24:41","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T10:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2024\/09\/dai-caraibi-a-siena-il-progetto-transcultura\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T14:05:29","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T12:05:29","slug":"dai-caraibi-a-siena-il-progetto-transcultura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/diplomazia-culturale\/2024\/09\/dai-caraibi-a-siena-il-progetto-transcultura\/","title":{"rendered":"From the Caribbean to Siena: the Transcultura project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From July 15 to September 2, 2024, the <em>Accademia Musicale Chigiana<\/em> in Siena hosted 18 young musicians from the Caribbean (1 from <strong>Barbados<\/strong>, 14 from <strong>Cuba<\/strong>, 2 from the <strong>Dominican Republic<\/strong> and 1 from <strong>Trinidad and Tobago<\/strong>), who took part in an <strong>advanced musical training program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of these artists was made possible thanks to the <strong>UNESCO program <\/strong><strong>\u201c<em>Transcultura<\/em>: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity\u201d<\/strong>, funded by the <strong>European Union<\/strong> and <strong>winner<\/strong> of the <strong>UN SIDS Partnerships Awards 2024<\/strong>. The initiative ensured <strong>free registration<\/strong> to one of the Academy\u2019s courses and full coverage of travel and accommodation expenses for the selected musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Initially envisaging a total of 10 scholarships, the initiative was so successful &#8211; both in terms of participation and candidates\u2019 high level of artistic preparation &#8211; that it led UNESCO to <strong>increase the number of scholarships<\/strong>, to allow access to the courses of the <em>Accademia Chigiana<\/em> to <strong>18 students<\/strong> (equally divided between male and female students).<\/p>\n<p>The initiative \u201cUNESCO Transcultura &#8211; Chigiana Advanced Music Program &#8211; Summer 2024\u201d was created by the <strong><em>Accademia Chigiana<\/em><\/strong>, supported by <strong>UNESCO<\/strong> and the <strong>European Union<\/strong>, with the collaboration of the <strong>Embassy of Italy in Havana<\/strong>. The experience contributed to strengthening the <strong>bonds of friendship between Italy and Cuba<\/strong> and triggered a stimulating <strong>exchange<\/strong> between the two cultures.<\/p>\n<p>As stated by the<strong> Artistic Director of the <em>Accademia Chigiana<\/em><\/strong>, Nicola Sani, <strong>\u201cUNESCO\u00a0<em>Transcultura<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em>Chigiana<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0Advanced Music Program &#8211; Summer 2024\u201d<\/strong> strengthens the role played by the Sienese Academy as an international centre of high-level musical training and production, a place of meeting, cultural exchange and integration for young people from all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"From July 15 to September 2, 2024, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena hosted 18 young musicians from the Caribbean (1 from Barbados, 14 from Cuba, 2 from the Dominican Republic and 1 from Trinidad and Tobago), who took part in an advanced musical training program.
