{"id":124330,"date":"2024-10-08T13:36:09","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T11:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2024\/10\/mumbai-cinema-italian-style\/"},"modified":"2024-10-08T15:45:34","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T13:45:34","slug":"mumbai-cinema-italian-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/diplomazia-culturale\/2024\/10\/mumbai-cinema-italian-style\/","title":{"rendered":"Mumbai Cinema Italian Style"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An event dedicated to <strong>Italian cinema<\/strong> was held last 27 September in Mumbai, at the Regal cinema theatre in Colaba, a historical one in the Indian capital, in the presence of director Giuseppe <strong>Tornatore, Oscar winner<\/strong> for <strong><em>Cinema Paradiso<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This film kicked off the \u201c<strong>CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE\u201d<\/strong> festival, dedicated to Italian classics, including <strong><em>Senso<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>La dolce vita, Once Upon a Time in America<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>Marriage Italian Style<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by the <strong>Consul General of Italy in Mumbai<\/strong>, Walter <strong>Ferrara<\/strong>, and the <strong>Director of the Italian Institute of Culture<\/strong>, Francesca <strong>Amendola<\/strong>, &#8211; in collaboration with Shivendra Singh Dungarpur of the Film Heritage Foundation, and with the support of <strong>Axis Bank<\/strong> and <strong>IED Istituto Europeo di Design <\/strong>&#8211; the festival welcomed Italian director Giuseppe <strong>Tornatore<\/strong>, on his first visit to India, recording a sell-out in the 1,200-seat hall.<\/p>\n<p>The festival opened with <strong><em>Cinema Paradiso<\/em><\/strong>, followed by screenings of <strong><em>Malena<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Ennio<\/em><\/strong>, a tribute to composer Ennio Morricone. Furthermore, the audience enjoyed restored classics by Federico <strong>Fellini <\/strong>(<strong><em>La Dolce Vita<\/em><\/strong>, 1960), Vittorio <strong>De Sica <\/strong>(<strong><em>Marriage Italian Style, <\/em><\/strong>1964), Luchino <strong>Visconti <\/strong>(<strong><em>Senso<\/em><\/strong>, 1954) and Sergio <strong>Leone<\/strong> (<strong><em>Once Upon a Time in America<\/em><\/strong>, 1984).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Maestro <\/em><\/strong><strong>Tornatore<\/strong>, who also held a <strong>Masterclass<\/strong> and a session entitled \u201c<strong>A Conversation with Tornatore<\/strong>\u201d for Indian film <strong>students <\/strong>and all film enthusiasts, graciously and empathetically thanked the entire audience and emphasised the importance of watching films in cinema theatres.
