Italy\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani opened today at the Italian Foreign Ministry (Farnesina), together with the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, the conference for the presentation of the Interim Report of the Working Table for the Internationalisation of Biotechnology Industries, during which Italy\u2019s growing role in the biotechnology sector and the opportunities for growth abroad were explored.<\/p>\n
\u201cI decided to launch this initiative, which falls within the scope of growth diplomacy, to identify strategies to support the internationalisation of emerging industries in the field of biotechnology, while strengthening the whole domestic sector,\u201d commented the Minister of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to support the sector through international collaborations by attracting investment, accelerating the development and application of biotechnological innovations and consolidating Italy\u2019s role as a leader in this strategic field,\u201d added Tajani, emphasising in particular the collaborative relationship in this sector with the United States. The Minister concluded by stating that such efforts were also part of a new Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation-led innovation diplomacy for the international promotion of hi-tech sectors, i.e., those areas that are becoming increasingly crucial to Italy\u2019s capacity for future growth.<\/p>\n
With innovation diplomacy, the Italian Foreign Ministry is contributing to increasing the level of scientific and technological innovation in the Italian economic system, which is ultimately responsible for Italy\u2019s capacity for future growth. The Report was presented by Pierluigi Paracchi (member of the Executive Committee of Federchimica-Assobiotec and founder of Genenta, the only Italian company listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York). The President of the Italian Trade Agency, Matteo Zoppas, the General Manager of Enea Tech and Biomedical, Maria Cristina Porta, and the CEO of CDP Venture, Agostino Scornajenchi, also spoke at the event, as did Minister Bernini\u2019s representative Fabio Fava, professor of Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Bologna and Chair of the Bioeconomy Coordination Board at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.<\/p>\n
The Interim Report was drawn up by the Working Table for the Internationalisation of Biotechnology Industries \u2013 set up by Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in agreement with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Ministry of University and Research, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the National Research Council (CNR), CDP Venture Capital, Enea Tech and Biomedical and made up of entrepreneurs, scientists and experts in the sector.<\/p>\n
