{"id":125851,"date":"2024-10-28T13:59:37","date_gmt":"2024-10-28T12:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2024\/10\/a-cracovia-le-sculture-di-quayola\/"},"modified":"2024-10-28T16:27:47","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T15:27:47","slug":"a-cracovia-le-sculture-di-quayola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/diplomazia-culturale\/2024\/10\/a-cracovia-le-sculture-di-quayola\/","title":{"rendered":"Quayola\u2019s sculptures in Krakow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the <strong>20<sup>th<\/sup> edition of Contemporary Art Day<\/strong>, the <strong>Italian Cultural Institute of Cracow<\/strong> is presenting the exhibition <strong>\u201cWsp\u00f3\u0142czesny Antyk \u2013 Contemporary Antiquities<\/strong>\u201d (open to the public <strong>until 8 November<\/strong>) featuring artist <strong>Quayola<\/strong> and the collaboration of critic and <strong>curator <\/strong>Valentino<strong> Catrical\u00e0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of three important frameworks \u2013 in addition to Contemporary Art Day, it is part of the <strong>Jubilee celebrations of Igor Mitoraj<\/strong>, the great <strong>Polish<\/strong> <strong>sculptor<\/strong> celebrated this year in Poland, Italy and abroad, as well as <strong>Open Eyes Art<\/strong>, a festival of contemporary visual art involving Cracow as a crossroads of European artistic influences.<\/p>\n<p>On 8 October, the event opened with a <strong>lectio magistralis<\/strong> curated by <strong>Quayola<\/strong> and Valentino <strong>Catrical\u00e0<\/strong> at the \u201cJan Matejko\u201d Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, as dedicated to the <strong>links between art, science, technology<\/strong> and the present of <strong>contemporary artistic research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, witness the <strong>vernissage<\/strong> of \u201c<strong>Pluto #F_03_S4<\/strong>\u201d, as realised by <strong>Quayola <\/strong>in 2020 as a <strong>variation of Gian Lorenzo Bernini<\/strong>\u2019s masterpiece <strong>\u201cThe Rape of Proserpine\u201d<\/strong> at the Exhibition <strong>Gallery<\/strong> of the <strong>Italian Cultural Institute<\/strong>. This work is an ongoing exploration of <strong>classical<\/strong> sculpture through <strong>robotic<\/strong> means.<\/p>\n<p>From the classicism of <strong>Bernini <\/strong>and <strong>Michelangelo<\/strong> to the postmodernism of <strong>Mitoraj <\/strong>and the contemporaneity of <strong>Quayola<\/strong>\u2019s research into the interplay between the <strong>human<\/strong> and <strong>machines<\/strong>, between the <strong>real<\/strong> and the <strong>artificial<\/strong> \u2013 this play of contrasts, only apparently conflicting, is condensed in the subtitle chosen for the exhibition, \u201c<strong>Wsp\u00f3\u0142czesny Antyk \u2013 Contemporary Antiquities<\/strong>\u201d, offering a reflection on the expressive potential of <strong>digital technology in contemporary art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"On the occasion of the 20th edition of Contemporary Art Day, the Italian Cultural Institute of Cracow is presenting the exhibition \u201cWsp\u00f3\u0142czesny Antyk \u2013 Contemporary Antiquities\u201d (open to the public until 8 November) featuring artist Quayola and the collaboration of critic and curator Valentino Catrical\u00e0.
