The Italian Foreign Ministry announces that the Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, reporting from Iran, was arrested on 19 December by the Tehran police authorities.<\/p>\n
On the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, the Italian Embassy and Consulate in Tehran have been following the case with the utmost attention since the very beginning. In coordination with the Presidency of the Italian Council, the Italian Foreign Ministry has been working with the Iranian authorities to clarify Cecilia Sala\u2019s legal situation and to verify the conditions of her detention.<\/p>\n
Today, Italian Ambassador Paola Amadei paid a consular visit to verify the conditions and status of Sala\u2019s detention. The journalist\u2019s family was informed of the outcome of the consular visit. Earlier, Sala was allowed to make two phone calls with her relatives.<\/p>\n
