{"id":130982,"date":"2025-01-31T13:41:02","date_gmt":"2025-01-31T12:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2025\/01\/il-giorno-della-memoria-nelle-scuole-italiane-allestero\/"},"modified":"2025-01-31T17:01:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T16:01:08","slug":"il-giorno-della-memoria-nelle-scuole-italiane-allestero","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/diplomazia-culturale\/2025\/01\/il-giorno-della-memoria-nelle-scuole-italiane-allestero\/","title":{"rendered":"Holocaust Remembrance Day in Italian schools abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/it\/diplomazia-culturale-e-diplomazia-scientifica\/cultura\/sistema-della-formazione-italiana-nel-mondo\/\"><strong>SFIM &#8211; Sistema Italiano della Formazione nel Mondo<\/strong><\/a> (Italian Education System in the World) celebrated the Holocaust Remembrance Day by organising initiatives and activities aimed at students attending Italian schools abroad, a crucial opportunity to pass down to the new generations the importance of remembering the atrocities and victims of the Nazi Shoah on the 80<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of 27 January 1945 when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/scuolaitaatene.esteri.it\/\"><strong>Comprehensive Italian State School of Athens<\/strong><\/a> organised, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and Embassy, the event <em>\u2018Semita antisemita due prefetti nell&#8217;Italia fascista\u2019 <\/em>(Semitic anti-Semitic two prefects in Fascist Italy) addressing the issue of racial laws, and, in particular, the human, political and administrative vicissitudes of two prefects of Fascist Italy, both of whom were affected, albeit in different ways, by the racial laws of 1938 \u2013 one for having been, despite himself, a proponent of them, the other as a Jew \u2018of religion and race\u2019. The two-day event was attended by the <strong>Ambassador of Italy to Greece Paolo Cuculi<\/strong>, <strong>professor Sonia Zaccaria<\/strong> and <strong>historian Gero Difrancesco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/scuolaitaparigi.esteri.it\/\"><strong>Italian State School of Paris<\/strong><\/a> organised a screening of the documentary \u2018<em>1938 &#8211; Diversi\u2019<\/em> by Giorgio Treves, which again deals with the introduction and consequences of the racial laws passed in Italy by the Fascist regime in 1938.<\/p>\n<p>The students attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/scuolaitamadrid.esteri.it\/\"><strong>Italian State School of Madrid<\/strong><\/a>, as part of the project <em>\u2018La Memoria: per Non Dimenticare\u2019<\/em>, analysed the works of writer and Holocaust survivor Primo Levi and the films \u2018Life is Beautiful\u2019 by Roberto Benigni, \u2018The Boy in the Striped Pajamas\u2019 by Mark Herman and \u2018The Pianist\u2019 by Roman Polanski, using special narrative techniques to create an emotional and reflective journey.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, the activities of the <a href=\"https:\/\/scuolaitazurigo.esteri.it\/\"><strong>Italian State School \u2018Casa d&#8217;Italia\u2019 of Zurich<\/strong><\/a> involved reading and analysing the children&#8217;s book \u2018Otto.
