{"id":131082,"date":"2025-04-02T09:00:42","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T07:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2025\/02\/regno-unito-obbligo-di-richiesta-di-eta-per-cittadini-italiani-in-visita-a-partire-dal-2-aprile\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T13:09:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T11:09:11","slug":"regno-unito-obbligo-di-richiesta-di-eta-per-cittadini-europei-in-visita-a-partire-da-oggi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/retediplomatica\/2025\/04\/regno-unito-obbligo-di-richiesta-di-eta-per-cittadini-europei-in-visita-a-partire-da-oggi\/","title":{"rendered":"UK, ETA requirement for EU citizens travelling to the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK Government has phased in ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) as a travel requirement.<\/p>\n<p>The ETA is not a visa, but a prior (electronic) authorisation to travel to the UK reserved for non-resident foreign nationals who are exempt from the visa requirement for short stays not exceeding six months.<\/p>\n<p>SINCE WHEN DOES IT APPLY TO ITALY?<\/p>\n<p>Starting from 2 April 2025, for short-stay travels to the UK it is mandatory for Italian citizens, as well as for all EU citizens, to obtain an ETA before departure.<\/p>\n<p>For non-EU citizens, the obligation has been imposed since 8 January 2025.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/check-when-you-can-get-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta\">For more information on timing, costs, and the countries included in the ETA scheme, please refer to the website of the competent British authorities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>WHO MUST APPLY FOR THE ETA?<\/p>\n<p>All non-resident foreign nationals, including children, who do not require a short-stay visa or have no immigration status in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The following people are therefore exempt from the ETA requirement:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>foreign nationals resident in the UK who hold a valid residence permit and, among them, the holders of \u201cpre-settled status\u201d or \u201csettled status\u201d under the EU Settlement Scheme.<\/li>\n<li>British and Irish citizens do not require an ETA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>HOW LONG IS IT VALID FOR?<\/p>\n<p>The ETA allows multiple trips to the UK for stays of up to six months at a time, over a two-year period or until the holder&#8217;s passport expires, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors must in fact travel with the same passport used at the time of applying for the ETA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The UK Government has phased in ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) as a travel requirement.
