Free fantasy and variations<\/strong>\u201d, performed by <strong>pianist<\/strong> Rossana <strong>Tomassi Golkar<\/strong> in a solo piano version written exclusively for her by <strong>Maestro<\/strong> Luis <strong>Bacalov<\/strong>, winner of the <strong>Academy Award<\/strong> in 1996. The concert, organised on the occasion of the staging of <strong><em>Norma<\/em><\/strong> by <strong>Vincenzo Bellini<\/strong> at the Staatsoper and first premiered in 2009 at the Santa Cecilia Hall of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, represents <strong>Bacalov\u2019s personal reinterpretation of Bellini\u2019s opera<\/strong>. Luis Bacalov, an Argentine-born pianist, composer, and conductor who later became an Italian citizen, passed away in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In his welcome address, the<strong> Ambassador to Vienna<\/strong>, Giovanni <strong>Pugliese<\/strong>, highlighted that <strong>Rossana Tomassi Golkar\u2019s concert marks the Vienna stop of an extensive tour<\/strong>, which has taken\u2014and continues to take\u2014the Italian pianist across the globe. The Ambassador also emphasised how the idea of reimagining and <strong>rewriting Bellini\u2019s opera<\/strong> was a <strong>complex yet fascinating challenge<\/strong> for Maestro Bacalov\u2014one that he successfully accomplished. His aim was to bring <em>Norma<\/em> to life solely through the sounds and emotions of the piano.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Director of the Italian Cultural Institute,<\/strong> Nicola <strong>Locatelli<\/strong>, thanked the pianist for including Vienna in her tour, offering the audience an exclusive performance of a special piece that reflects the enduring inspirational power of Bellini\u2019s work, even for contemporary artists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Italian Cultural Institute of Vienna hosted the recital \u201cNorma.
